Eco Council

 

Eco-Council Constitution 

Aims

  • To help make the school environmentally friendly
  • To give pupils a voice to give their opinions and ideas on how to make the school more eco-friendly

Membership

There will be two representatives from each class from Years 1-6.  Nursery and Reception class teachers will receive minutes and talk to their children about eco ideas. Children’s ideas will be collected and shared at the Eco-Council meetings and members will report back to their classes.

The link teacher will be Mrs Picton. Any other staff member can be invited to join meetings.

Eco-Council Elections

  • Elections will take place once a year at the beginning of term
  • Each child will complete an application form or do a presentation for their class
  • Children will have a secret ballot in class to choose their class rep

Meetings

  • Meetings will be held once every half-term
  • More meetings will happen if there is something important to discuss
  • The adult will be there to help, but not run the meetings
  • Children will take it in turns to chair the meetings
  • Any other adults can attend the meeting if invited by the Eco-Council
  • Eco-Council and Student Council may sometimes have joint meetings to organise big school events

Eco-Council Roles and Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of Eco-Council members are to:

  • take part in Eco-Council discussions
  • represent their class at all Eco-Council meetings
  • consider the views of the pupils they represent when they make decisions
  • report back to their class after Eco-Council meetings

The adult will help at the meeting.  It is the Eco-Council reps duty to:

Set a good example to other pupils by:

  • keeping the school litter free
  • caring for plants and animals
  • recycling
  • saving water and turning off taps
  • saving electricity by turning off appliances and lights when not in use
  • eating healthy and mindfully and trying to have a waste free lunch
  • working towards the Green Flag award and leading by example

In addition the Eco-Council reps will:

  • talk to the Headteacher and other staff members when introducing new ideas
  • share environmental ideas and involve pupils, staff, parents, other schools and the wider community
  • help the link teacher deal with information to do with environmental issues
